Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety - Implementation Plan
Wednesday 19th of December 2018
The Government have published its plan for implementing changes to the regulatory framework around building safety, in response to the recommendations set out in the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
The implementation plan summarises the work that has already been undertaken to make existing buildings safe and to kick-start system reform, as well as what they intend to do to fundamentally reform the building safety system. The implementation plan is available here.
Alongside the implementation plan, they have also published a Call for Evidence which invites views on how residents of multi-occupied buildings can best be supported to help keep their homes and buildings safe. The Call for Evidence is available here.
The statement that sat with the annoucement said:
We want to ensure that residents are safe, and feel safe now and in the future, by giving residents a stronger voice in an improved system of building safety. To do this, we need to understand what structural and fire safety issues are most important to residents and their landlord or building manager, the extent to which current engagement and systems work well and what good practice exists that can be learnt from. This Call for Evidence is an important part of ensuring the voices of those who may be affected by any potential future changes are heard and listened to. This is your opportunity to put forward views on how best to ensure that residents have a stronger voice on building safety issues in future and that landlords and building managers have the tools and powers they need to ensure that buildings are safe now, and in the future, including identifying any gaps in the current regulatory framework.
The closing date for responses is 12 February. Anyone with an interest in this issue is welcome to submit their views. Responses are particularly welcome from residents of multi-occupancy buildings, owners, landlords and managers of such buildings. If you would like to discuss any of the issues raised by this Call for Evidence or request a meeting, please contact: the Residents’ Voice team at RVRI@communities.gov.uk
