Today, the Government has launched a consultation on future social housing rent policy

Wednesday 30th of October 2024

In this consultation, they set out the preferred policy of permitting social housing rents to increase by up to CPI+1% each year for five years (2026-2031).

They said: We think this strikes the right balance between those who would benefit from increased investment in new and existing homes, tenants whose disposable income would be affected by rent increases and the consequences for welfare spending. We also welcome views on alternative lengths of settlement (e.g. 10-year settlement, 5-year rolling settlement) and other rent policy measures that could provide additional stability or certainty.
