Unlocking the Power of Scrutiny - Workshop summary
Thursday 20th of March 2025
This week at the Tpas National Engagement Professionals Conference, the “Unlocking the Power of Scrutiny” session brought together housing and engagement professionals into a workshop to explore effective oversight practices. Designed to balance theory with hands on learning, the session covered three core themes: embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, collaborative techniques, and measuring impact.
The workshop began by exploring the purpose of scrutiny—ensuring transparency, integrity, and inclusiveness—with a particular focus on embedding equality and diversity into every stage of the process. Attendees then moved into interactive breakout exercises, sharing real examples of how they’ve applied, data triangulation, and stakeholder workshops to drive meaningful change in their organisations. This peer exchange highlighted a variety of approaches—from co-created recruitment to scrutiny, to online scrutiny panels—that underscored the value of collaboration in scrutiny.
The final discussion shifted to defining success: establishing clear KPIs, and feedback loops that turn oversight into action. Several participants described how linking scrutiny findings to concrete service improvements improved tenant satisfaction and accountability within their services. The session concluded with each attendee committing to one practical step they’ll implement, whether that’s introducing a new metric or expanding stakeholder representation in future reviews.
The feedback has been positive, and one attendee stated, “This session didn’t just tell us what good scrutiny looks like—it showed us how to make it happen.”
