Accredited Community Mediation Training
Wednesday 22nd of January 2025
In partnership with Croydon Mediation, we are offering landlords the opportunity to train residents as qualified mediators. This course, accredited by the College of Mediators will equip residents with the necessary skills to effectively manage and resolve disagreements, including those which have developed into formal complaints.
Residents have a unique insight into the dynamics of their community and putting them at the forefront of conflict resolution provides landlords a valuable resource through which they can address disputes in a way that bridges gaps in communication, reduces tension and promotes cohesion and harmony within neighbourhoods.
The concept of training residents as mediators also aligns with the Housing Ombudsman's Spotlight Report, Time to be Heard, which calls for landlords to develop distinct policies for managing noise nuisance - one of the most common causes of complaints in social housing. Professional, resident mediators offer landlords an immediate and impactful means to respond to such disputes.
Resident involvement is viewed as an indicator of a positive landlord culture by both the Regulator of Social Housing and the Housing Ombudsman Service. This initiative represents an opportunity for landlords to enhance their approach to dispute resolution, providing an alternative pathway for managing conflict as well as relief on strained complaint handling services.
