Building a safer future - Consultation

Friday 7th of June 2019

The Secretary of State has published the consultation Building a safer future: proposals for reform of the building safety regulatory system today, following the December implementation plan.

The Secretary of State has also made a Written Ministerial Statement to Parliament, which is available to view here.

The consultation sets out how MHCLG intend to take forward the recommendations made by Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety through meaningful legislative reform, and as such invites you to share your views on five areas of the new regime for high-rise residential buildings.

The consultation sets out the plans for moving:

  • from a passive system, centred around compliance with building regulations,
  • to a proactive one, where developers and building owners take responsibility.

The MHCLG want to empower residents with a stronger voice and put clear responsibility and accountability at the heart of a more effective system.

The consultation deadline is 11:45pm on Wednesday 31 July 2019.

You can submit your views online, by email or by post.

All details are available here.
