New funding for community-led housing in the UK
Monday 19th of June 2017
The Nationwide Foundation has funding available for work that strengthens the infrastructure of the community-led housing sector. The Backing Community-Led Housing programme is open to applications for grant or programme-related investment funding, which will strengthen, support and champion the growth of community-led housing, so that more people in need will benefit.
With this new funding, the Nationwide Foundation is focussing its support on strengthening the infrastructure of the community-led housing sector so that more communities will build new homes and bring empty properties into use as homes. This will mean that there is better access to the information, support, advice and technical expertise that is needed for a project to progress.
The Nationwide Foundation believes that community-led housing sector has the flexibility and capability to deliver a significant contribution of much needed affordable homes. It knows that a wide range of different approaches could be taken and is looking to organisations to tell the Foundation what they think will work.
Ensuring that there is robust knowledge of what works well and which ideas should be expanded and progressed long term is integral to the approach. Therefore, the Nationwide Foundation will be carrying out action research on the different approaches to identify the most effective models of support.
The Backing Community-Led Housing programme is part of the Nationwide Foundation’s Decent Affordable Homes strategy.
