National Tenant Scrutiny Conference 2022
Wednesday 5th October 2022
As we enter into a new white paper world, of proactive regulation, tenant satisfaction measures and a beefed-up Housing Ombudsman, it is more important than ever that tenant/resident/customer-led scrutiny continues to evolve to deliver maximum impact and accountability within this environment.
Our second national scrutiny conference, therefore, offers you the time and space you need to focus on yourself and your scrutiny – where it is now, where you want it to be, how you can make it more successful, and what skills you need?
Our experienced scrutiny practitioners, leading speakers, and workshop leaders, will share their insight and support to inspire, innovate and invite fresh thinking.
We also know the value of sharing good practice and learning from each other too, so we are pleased to announce that the conference will have its very own scrutiny showcase stage, where different organisations will give you a unique insight into their scrutiny approaches.
This conference will provide a perfect opportunity for staff, residents, tenants, board members, councillors and anyone else with a passion for scrutiny to come together to learn, network and shape the future of tenant scrutiny in 2022 and beyond.

The workshop will explore the common saying of ‘great minds think alike’ and ask if that is something we should celebrate in the context of scrutiny or does effective scrutiny need the challenge that different views and perspectives bring? And, if this is the case then: ? How can we actively recruit for diversity? ? How can we practically work together in a group to appreciate and value differences? ? How do we create the inclusive atmosphere in that group that creates the sense of belonging. Workshop 3 - Doing a Scrutiny Review – The Tpas steps to success At the heart of every review there should be an open, transparent and consistent process that ensures scrutiny delivers robust outcomes and real change. This workshop takes you through Tpas’s simple, and respected “Steps to Success” process that you can adapt and grow to suit your own reviews. Workshop 4 - Constructive Conversations for Scrutiny Success. Whether it's interviewing staff, gaining feedback from other tenants/residents/customers or chatting to each other, the conversations you have really are key to the success of your review, so why not join this workshop to see how you can improve and develop your conversation skills |

Scrutiny Workshops Workshop 5 - Scrutiny – it’s place in a new regulatory world. Tenant/Resident/Customer Scrutiny has always been vital in ensuring good services and highlighting issues, but could it be even more essential in the years to come? With the biggest changes to Social Housing in years coming in the form of the Social Housing Regulation Bill, join Tpas Policy and Insight Manager Caritas Charles in an interactive session looking at how Scrutiny could hold the key to a greater tenants’ voice. Workshop 6 - Top Tpas Tips for dealing with Scrutiny Challenges Like most things in life the path to Scrutiny Success rarely runs smoothly. This workshop covers some of the common challenges and issues when it comes to Scrutiny, but more importantly is offers practical solutions and tips. Meaning that you can navigate the challenges ahead with more confidence, and maybe even avoid them altogether. Workshop 7 - Recruiting for Scrutiny For all of us involved in Scrutiny, we know what an incredibly rewarding and interesting opportunity it is but how do we convince others? This insightful and innovative workshop looks at what works when it comes to recruiting scrutineers, and also shares with you some alternative approaches that you might want to use. Workshop 8 - Show me the Evidence Scrutiny needs good quality evidence. Without it, investigations and recommendations become rooted in opinions, and lack the rigour and robustness needed to make a real impact. This workshop will explore what we mean by evidence, why it matters, and the difference types of evidence gathering tools that Scrutiny can use. |
